Pre-Wedding Counselling
Weddings are stressful. There’s no getting away from the fact, but wedding
stress can actually be fun at times. There are so many things to organise, but
when you find the perfect stationery, cake, or dress, the feeling of everything
coming together somehow makes up for it.
Often, though, people have other things going on in their lives, and these
things don’t go away just because wedding stress is starting to mount. Everyone
wants to enjoy their wedding day, but for many people there can be huge anxiety
around the fact that this just does not seem possible.
If you suffer with depression or anxiety there can be concerns around whether
you are going to be able to have a “good day” on the day of your wedding, or
whether your symptoms will get the better of you.
Weddings can be very emotional at the best of times, but if you have suffered a
bereavement this can also impact on your day, as questions over what the
deceased would think and do can be overwhelming, and “what if…?” takes over when
your mind should mostly be on happier things.
There are other issues, such as low self-esteem, anger problems, body-image
issues, trauma, relationship or family issues, etc that can also cause huge
anxiety in the run up to a wedding.
Counselling can help in two ways. First, it can help you to deal with your
problems, by helping you to develop coping strategies to use on the day, and in
the run up to the wedding. But most importantly it can also help you discover
the root of these problems, and by dealing with the cause of the problem, reduce
or even eliminate the symptoms.
